When you choose your AECOM health care benefits, you are encouraged to provide a Social Security number for yourself and each of your covered dependents (spouse/domestic partner and children). This is due to a tax reporting requirement under the Affordable Care Act.
If you want to confirm a Social Security is on file before Benefits Open Enrollment starts:
- As an employee, you can verify your own Social Security number in your HR system (e.g., Workday, EV5). Any changes you make in the HR system will carry over to the benefits administration system within a couple of weeks.
- For your covered spouse/domestic partner and children, log in to your personalized benefits account. Go to “Your Profile” and then “Dependent Summary” to see the last 4 digits of each Social Security number on file. If you want to verify the full Social Security number, call the AECOM Benefits Service Center.
Here are some more things to know about providing Social Security numbers:
- Children under the age of two do not need to have a Social Security number on file.
- While you are encouraged to provide a Social Security number when possible, you can enroll yourself and your eligible dependents without one. To enroll yourself or a dependent over the age of two in AECOM health care coverage without a Social Security number, please contact the AECOM Benefits Service Center.
- If you want to add a new dependent to your AECOM coverage, you must do so within 31 days of a life event, even if your dependent does not yet have a Social Security number. For example, if you have a newborn child or adopt a child, add the child to your coverage within 31 days of the date of birth or adoption.
- Although you can enroll without a Social Security number, all adults must have a Social Security number on file before accessing health care services.
- If you do not have a Social Security number, another tax identification number may be provided.
- If you do not provide a correct Social Security number (or another tax identification number) for anyone over the age of two:
- We are legally required to follow up with you to request one through our benefits administration partner, Alight.
- The IRS may send you a notice indicating that you are liable for a tax penalty.
