September is Suicide Prevention Month in the U.S., and World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10 — both promote worldwide action to prevent suicides.
Every year, nearly 1 million people die from suicide worldwide. Depression, alcohol abuse and reckless behavior contribute to suicide. Here are some warning signs of suicidal behavior:
- Being sad or depressed most of the time
- Talking about suicide
- Withdrawing from family and friends
- Feeling hopeless
- Acting recklessly
Always take these signs seriously and get help immediately. Learn more about what to do if you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts.
This month we’re offering Talking about the “S” Word, a WELLbinar hosted by Cigna about removing the stigma associated with challenging topics, such as suicide and self-harm. Register now to attend the live WELLbinar on September 8 or to receive a recording of it.
